A research which was published in the journal Hormones and
Behavior and performed by Michael Wasserman , Department of Environmental
Sciences at the University of Berkeley, says that diet is crucial when it comes
to the quality of sex, and that the vegetarians have an advantage over the
"carnivores".
Research is the first to observe the relationship between
the called phytoestrogens , which are sex hormones in plants, and the behavior
of wild primates . In this case, the conclusions of the study have been
deducted from the behavior of monkeys in Uganda under study, but scientists say
that if such a study should be conducted in humans the result would be similar.
For 11 months Wasserman feeding was watching a red colobus,
a species of monkeys in Kibale National Park , Uganda. The researchers focused
on the attacks that occurred in the group, which measured by the number of
chases and fights, mating frequency and time spent in the toilet. Besides,
scientists also collected fecal samples to assess changes in hormone levels.
The researchers found that male red colobus leaves Millettia
eating hard, a tropical tree that contains estrogen-like compounds , and
closely linked to soy , had higher levels of estradiol, the "sex hormone" cortisol and "hormone that is released by stress."
They found that monkeys that had altered their hormone
levels spent more time having sex. “Hormone levels produce significant changes
in social behavior and affect sexual health, which is essential in reproduction.
Diet is crucial in this behavior, something that until now has been
underestimated, but has played a very important role in the development of
species human being inclusive”
Recent studies claim that vegetarians have cleaner arteries,
so that blood flows better, something fundamental in erection.
