Notice the gentle up and down movement of the stomach when inhaling and exhaling.
Look at what happens every time you lose awareness of the breath. The mind is focused in thought and suddenly, you realize you have made a few breaths without awareness of them. Consciousness is focused on something else and breathing becomes shallow and mechanical.
Every time this happens to you, you should refocus on breathing awareness; follow every movement inhaled into the abdomen and exhale out. You must be patient and calm yourself. By following the flow of the breath you get away from the mind and focus on the body in a natural way, which can only be achieved with practice. Records each time you return to the breath that occurs when you inhale and exhale with full awareness.
